Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed in a new Hollywood Reporter interview that it’s unlikely for Samuel L. Jackson-esque nine-movie deals–contracts for multiple pictures signed all at once–to happen in the future.
“That got a lot of attention way back when, with I think Scarlett, and [Chris] Hemsworth and Evans and Sam Jackson. It varies now,” Feige said to THR. “It varies, project to project, cast to cast. Really, what we want are people that come in, are excited to be in the universe, are excited at the opportunity to do more things, as opposed to being locked into contractual obligations.”
Feige did mention that contracts for multiple pictures isn’t totally out of the question, though, and that the studio could still offer talent deals for theme park attractions–a statement backed up by recent announcements. Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson signed on as producer and actress for a new movie based on Disney’s Tower of Terror ride.
When asked if Johansson will return to the MCU at some point in the future, Feige is unsure but doesn’t rule out her return. “‘Maybe there will be more down the road’ — [is the answer] comics have taught us,” said Feige. “Anything could be the answer to that question.”
Feige’s interview comes right before the release of Black Widow. The movie will officially release on Disney Plus with Premier Access on July 9 at 12 AM PT / 3 AM ET. If you want to catch it in theaters, check your local venues for showtimes. In many locations, Black Widow will air starting July 8.
