Amazon Prime Day is officially upon us, and manufacturers are selling many of their TVs at a serious discount. If you’re planning to upgrade your home-theater situation, there really is no time like the present.
But before we dig into the blazing-hot TV deals, you may want to take a peek at this handy guide on how to shop for a TV on Prime Day. In it, we break down five important things to consider when shopping for a TV online: price, size, resolution (Is 4K the new normal?), user interface (Roku, Fire TV or something else?) and display technology (what is QLED, and do you even want it?). A new Prime Day TV is only a good deal if it fits your space and needs.
Once you’ve done your research (and signed up for an Amazon Prime membership), you’re ready to proceed to the best part of the process: checking out the Prime Day deals. Here are some of the featured TVs marked down on Amazon this year.
Toshiba 43-inch 1080p Smart TV (2020)
This 43-inch 1080p smart TV is marked down more than 30% from the list price, during the Prime Day festivities. The voice remote with Alexa allows you to control your viewing experience hands-free.
Toshiba 32-inch 720p Smart TV (2020)
At just 32 inches, this budget-friendly Toshiba TV is well suited for small spaces such as bedrooms or offices. It runs Amazon’s FireTV platform, so you can stream your favorite shows from Prime Video, Netflix and more without plugging in extra equipment.
The biggest sacrifice with this unit is the 720p display — that’s technically high definition, but is a noticeably lower resolution than the 1080p HD you’ll find on many modern televisions.
Toshiba 50-inch 4K UHD LED Smart TV (2021)
If you’re looking to spend a little more to invest in 4K resolution and a bigger screen, this 50-inch Toshiba Fire TV edition model from 2021 could be a good fit. Like the other Toshiba sets on sale, this one comes pre-installed with Amazon’s Fire TV.
It’s marked down to $360 (from $470) during the Prime Day promotion.
Toshiba 55-inch 4K UHD Smart TV with Dolby Vision (2020)
This 55-inch 4K Toshiba Fire TV edition model from 2020 is also on sale for $360 this Prime Day, the same sale price as the newer 50-inch model.
Insignia 43-inch 4K UHD Smart TV (2020)
Insignia discounted this 43-inch 4K TV down to $220 for Prime Day. Like the Toshiba sets, it has on-board Fire TV, so all you have to do is connect to Wi-Fi, log into your Prime Video account, and you can be streaming Jack Ryan in no time.
The Serif: 43-inch 4K Smart TV by Samsung (2020)
Part TV, part art piece, this design-centric unit is a collaboration between Samsung and Paris-based design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. The 43-inch QLED display comes with a sleek, modern stand. And when you’re not watching TV, the Serif has an “Ambient Mode” that displays photos or artwork.
The Serif is currently 20% off for Amazon Prime Day.
TCL 43-inch Android TV (2021)
Watch a movie on Netflix or stream home videos directly from your phone with this Android TV with built-in Chromecast. Google assistant allows you to easily search for movies and shows across platforms in a single “hey Google” query. You can get one of these for $86 off the list price during Prime Day.
Sony 75-inch 4K Ultra HD LED Smart Google TV (2021)
Looking to go big on Amazon Prime Day? Select Sony TV models 65 inches and larger are on sale, including this 75-inch Sony 4K smart TV with the Google TV operating system. It’s Alexa-enabled, and currently $302 off.
